I know from personal experience it’s a lot more fun to start out with other people (even if you don’t know them) than it is to sit alone and practice on ladder.
I’d recommend starting off by playing the single-player campaign.

In addition to posting here, I recommend posting copies of your entries under a more Starcraft-related title at TeamLiquid.net — the top SC community online. That way you’ll have more visibility since few will think to subscribe, but many will click when they see it.

I would love to commentate some of your replays when you enter the multiplayer arena. Maybe your 5 placement matches? I’m not TotalBiscuit, but I think it’s a great project and I think many of my subscribers would find the idea quite awesome.

What race are you playing?
IMHO, he shouldn’t get attached to a race at the start. Playing random at first is better.
He’s just doing the single player right now, so I doubt he’s picked a race already.

The single player campaign is a LOT of fun, definitely worth a play through (and then several more picking up cheeves)
Something I learned: DO NOT do the practice 1v1 matches – skip them and go direct to placement matches.. The Practice matches are a lot slower and will throw you off significantly. At least that was the case with me.

I would edit this to remove your character code just so you do not get trolled etc. Only give your code out sparingly and in private.
He is probably playing terran since its just the singleplayer for now. My guess is that it will be the multiplayer race too
Did you solve your computer troubles?
Don’t let the campaign decide what race you play! If you play too much of it without first trying other races, you’ll get too used to Terran to be able to easily switch to something else. Play whatever race you enjoy the most with, any of the three or even random. Hope you can get into it quickly.

Enjoy the single player! Once you finish it, don’t just immediately pick Terran as your multiplayer race just because you learned them in the SP. Experiment with all the races (against computers or in the practice league) to see what units/macro styles you enjoy. Most important is to have fun!
Really going to like your blog sir. StarCraft is the best game ever. Hope you sort out your tech issues!
